snow days...

Snow days force you to get lots of stuff done that you normally would not have time for (like creating a blog) I love snow days! I don't want to put a lot of writing on this blog unless it's about other people, what they are creating and how they inspire me. (I am also not the most talented writer!)  I am hoping to dedicate more time to my own projects as well. I constantly collect tons of photos, images and ideas that are either scattered all over my desk, written on post it's or shoved in various badly organized folders on my computer.  I think this blog would be a great place to get them all into one place and hopefully inspire others as well as myself. I have been meaning to create a blog for years now and just never got around to it. Back in the early 90's I was part of the zine world and I loved every second of it! Old school cut and paste, my typewriter, Kinkos and lots of trips to the post office for stamps. I had pen pals from all over the world and was completely obsessed. Trading my zine for other peoples zines, getting awesome stuff in the mail every day, traveling to meet other "zinesters", offers to be part of zine books that were published, getting reviewed in Factsheet 5, my parents thinking I was the unibomber or something-locking myself in my room only coming out once a day to get to the mailbox before they could and then leaving with a backpack full of stuff to hang out at the copy shop....then it seemed everything changed over night. Gone were the cut and paste, typewriter, Kinkos days and then everything was online. I remember connecting with the zine world on AOL in the beginning and keeping touch with everyone, and then it just ended and it was sad! Eventually, I went to art school, got my fine arts degree and then a BFA in textile/surface design and have been in the "real" design world ever since. I rarely have time anymore to do my own artwork (seriously, just putting on colorful eyeliner with a brush sometimes in the morning makes me sad I can't whip out an easel and all my paints!) I started doing a little blogging back in the Myspace days, and now everything is on Facebook but I really missed having a place where I could just be creative, give props to other creative people, review stuff I liked, post photos and artwork (all black and white photocopies back then, so I guess this is way better!) and get feedback from people who were into the same stuff I was! So let's see how this all evolves. It may just end up being a giant cork board for awesome images most of the time, but I would definitely love to feature creative people doing their thing, and hopefully soon whatever creative things merola+moya are up to!

Enjoy your snow day if you have one, and get shit done!
